Why Is There No Learning Button on the RX480E-1A Receiver?

You unpack your new RX480E-1A, expecting the familiar tiny button found on standard RX480E boards, but the surface is completely bare. You might think the factory missed a component or that the board is defective.

  • 1: Indicator light

  • 2: ANT (Antenna Pin)

  • 3: GND (Power Ground Pin)

  • 4: VCC (Power Input Pin)

  • 5: OUT (Level Output Pin)

  • 6: KEY (External Key Input Pin)

Actually, nothing is missing. The RX480E-1A does not feature an onboard Learning button by design. Instead, it has a KEY pin that serves as an external button input.

Because there is no built-in tactile switch, every configuration step—including pairing remotes, selecting Momentary, Toggle, or Latching modes, and resetting the module—uses this external input. Without wiring an external switch or button to the KEY pin, you cannot pair a remote control or set a working mode.

Before powering up the receiver, connect an external momentary button to the KEY pin. Once that button is in place, what kind of project are you planning to control with your RX480E-1A?
